Don’t want F-18 fighters. The US Navy: It’s not a Sino-Russian rival, but I hope to replace all of them with 500 F-35s.

According to the news published on the official website of the U.S. Navy, in the current draft of the defense expenditure of the U.S. Congress, Congress clearly requires the U.S. Navy to increase the number of aircraft carriers in active service—F/A-18E/F Super Hornet carrier-based fighters. Purchase quantity.

The U.S. Navy has a lot of complaints about this draft, reporting to Congress that the newly purchased F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter may be in service until 35 years later, when this invisible 4.5-generation fighter will be in service. Fighters may not be able to deal with the threats of Chinese and Russian carrier-based fighters.

It is worth mentioning that at the military-industrial complex seminar held by the U.S. Navy earlier, U.S. Navy Admiral Jill criticized the decision to purchase weapons that did not meet the operational needs of the U.S. Navy. He believes that some people lobby Congress to allow Congress to approve the construction of backward weapons, so that these military-industrial complexes can make money, but it will not be of any use to the long-term development of the US Navy.

According to analysis by relevant sources, Gill’s remarks may be because the U.S. Navy’s previous procurement requirements did not explicitly mention the purchase of more Super Hornet fighters, so Congress required the Navy to increase orders for Super Hornet fighters. An incident expressed dissatisfaction.

Not only Jill, but in response to Congress’s request, Rear Admiral Loiser said that under normal use, the service life of a fighter jet is about 30 years. Therefore, the newly purchased Super Hornet will serve until the 2050s, but by the 2050s, the 7th generation fighters may appear.

The Super Hornet’s status as a carrier-based fighter of the U.S. Navy will be very embarrassing, because it can’t even fight the fifth-generation aircraft, and it will be even less of an opponent in the face of the future advanced 6 and 7 fighters of China and Russia.

Moreover, the purchase cost of the Super Hornet is not cheap. The price of buying a Super Hornet is equivalent to the price of upgrading and maintaining three Super Hornets. The above combined reasons are an important prerequisite for the U.S. Navy not to purchase more Super Hornets. .

It is best to keep the existing Super Hornet and replace these Super Hornets with the 5th generation or even the 6th generation that is under development in the future.

In this way, the cost of these 350 F-35s will reach 214.9 billion U.S. dollars! This is almost equivalent to 30% of the US annual defense budget. The US Congress is absolutely unable to spend this amount of money. Therefore, the Super Hornet will continue to accompany the US military until the day when it reaches the end of its useful life and is fully retired.
